On August 25-26, 1999, the Round Table on The position of demography among other disciplines was held on the premises of Charles University in Prague. Demography has a long history at Charles University; the first course of demography was introduced at its Faculty of Philosophy in 1899, i.e. just 100 years ago. The revised contributions presented at the Round Table were published in the volume under the same name. The volume contents 15 presentations dealing with demography from various aspects and with the demography's connections with other disciplines, such as statistics, mathematics, sociology, social psychology, bio-anthropology, history, economics and geography.
